Fans of Gangs of Galicia (also known as Clanes) can finally breathe a sigh of relief—Netflix ES has officially confirmed that Season 2 is happening! According to What’s On Netflix, the crime thriller is set to return, more than six months after its first season made waves on the streaming platform.
For those unfamiliar with the show, Gangs of Galicia follows a woman who, after the shocking murder of her father, discovers that he had been living a double life. Fueled by vengeance, she infiltrates a powerful Galician drug cartel, getting dangerously close to its leader in her quest for the truth.
The first season was a major hit, making it into Netflix’s Top 10 in 82 countries, including Spain, where it held onto its spot for over 11 weeks. It also secured a place in Netflix’s global non-English TV Top 10 for five weeks, racking up an impressive 72.4 million hours watched—equivalent to 13.9 million views worldwide.
Interestingly, the Season 2 announcement wasn’t a big flashy reveal but more of a side note during Netflix’s Next on Netflix event in Madrid. While the event mainly focused on upcoming U.S. releases, it also shed light on some exciting Spanish projects, including Aitana: Metamorphosis, Carlos Alcaraz: My War, Olympo, A Ghost in Battle, and Turn of the Tide Season 2.
Netflix’s VP of Content for Spain, Portugal, and the Nordics, Diego Avalos, emphasized the company’s commitment to telling stories that resonate with diverse audiences. “We profoundly believe in stories that connect, inspire, and reflect unique voices in every corner of our country, with a unique mission: to entertain audiences,” he stated.
