Zareen Khan opens up about body-shaming and how perceptions change with every film

Zareen Khan opens up about her debut-movie ‘Veer’ and how she was asked to put on weight for the role, following which she faced a lot of body shaming

Actress Zareen Khan, who made her Bollywood Debut alongside Salman Khan in ‘Veer’, was told to put on weight for the movie by ‘experienced people’ who gave her the particular ‘instructions’.

Talking about how the industry judged her on the way of her looks, she said, ” In the beginning it was really difficult because of the comparison, my weight was almost a national issue.”

She added how people were quick to draw a likeliness between Katrina and herself, before the focus shifted to her body type and shape. She said, “”Everybody was just talking about my weight and I couldn’t understand — why is my weight such an issue, because I was told to put on that weight.”

Recalling her debut experience with Salman, she said, “When I entered the industry, I was like this lost child. I was a 20 or 21-year-old, not as polished as the 20 or 21-year-olds we have now. (I had) Nothing to do with the Bollywood industry and there I was on a film set with the biggest superstar of the country,” Zareen recalled about starring with Salman.”

Post the release of the film, Zareen realized that everything had backfired. From her looks to her weight and her acting, everything was out of place. She even found the entire thing extremely disturbing and funny.

Talking to a leading daily, she tried to put her emotions into words by saying, “The industry has taught me that nothing is permanent here. Perceptions change with every film and nothing should be taken to heart.”
