Rishad Premji says that demand for talent will outstrip supply with the shift to digital

In the post-pandemic era talent is the major player for the technology sector and IT firms. In addition to that, businesses across the globe are moving to digital and thus the demand for talent is expected to surpass the demand for supply mentioned Rishad A Premji, the chairman of Wipro. To add to that he also recently announced it was surging salaries for 80 percent of its workforce which will come into place from September 2021.

Premji mentioned to the company’s shareholders in a letter that in the company’s FY21 annual report that technology is frequently at the lead of economic recovery, but as the pandemic has caused major changes to the economy and has brought about precipitated structural changes across industries has also challenged previously established way of working. He also mentioned that this shift would lead to a higher demand for talents in the tech industry which would then exceed the supply and would contribute to driving growth.

New working modes such as ‘work from home’ and ‘crowdsourcing’, are now becoming the new normal. As per recent reports, Wipro currently employs 1.9 lakh people and only 3 percent of them are from the office.

Lastly, Premji said, “I am very excited about the path we are on, and confident you will see a bolder and more ambitious Wipro as we move forward, that is unafraid to shake up the status quo, make tough calls, invest deep, and think big.” He believes that the difficult changes that the company has been through the past few months have only made the firm stronger and better.
