Veteran actor Akhilendra Mishra, known for his roles in Sarfarosh and Lagaan, recently shared his admiration for Aamir Khan’s rare qualities as an actor. In a conversation with Digital Commentary, Mishra lauded Khan’s commitment to the craft and his humility on set.
Describing Aamir as a “perfectionist,” Mishra highlighted his detailed preparation and willingness to rehearse scenes repeatedly to ensure perfection. “He even understands his co-actors and does rehearsals repeatedly. He never goes for the take directly,” Mishra said, emphasizing Aamir’s collaborative approach to filmmaking.
Mishra also praised Aamir for his selflessness, recalling an instance from Sarfarosh. He explained that Aamir often prioritizes the integrity of a scene over personal prominence. “If he feels that the scene belongs to the other actor, he would just give it away to them. It is a big thing for a star to think like that,” Mishra noted.
Reflecting on Sarfarosh (1999), directed by John Matthew Matthan, Mishra recalled its immense popularity and the emotional connection it fostered, especially after the Kargil War. Fans even began reciting dialogues during screenings, a testament to the film’s impact.
Mishra also reminisced about working on Lagaan (2001), a sports period drama directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, where he played the role of Arjan alongside Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh. Both films showcased Aamir’s dedication and left a lasting legacy in Indian cinema.
