Billy Bob Thornton recently opened up about the intense finale of Landman, the Paramount+ series that dives into the high-stakes world of the Texas oil industry. The season’s dramatic conclusion saw his character, Tommy Norris, in life-threatening situations—including a brutal kidnapping by the cartel.
Despite the danger, Tommy’s resilience took center stage as he negotiated a tense deal with cartel leader Gallino, played by Andy Garcia. Reflecting on the finale, Thornton told The Hollywood Reporter, “It felt like a full-circle moment, but with even higher stakes.”
Thornton praised the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, for his sharp writing and credited the cast and crew for bringing the story to life. “The dialogue really nailed the characters, and working with this team was a joy,” he shared.
The ending also hints at future conflicts for Tommy as he struggles with cartel pressures, family tensions, and his growing responsibilities at M-Tex Oil.
One of the most intense moments in the finale was Tommy’s abduction, which Thornton tackled without a stunt double. “That was all me. I had stuff dumped on my head, and by the end of the night, I was completely drained,” he revealed.
His scenes with Andy Garcia also stood out as particularly compelling. “Andy and I just clicked—it felt real and effortless,” Thornton said, praising their on-screen dynamic.
Beyond the action, the finale explored Tommy’s personal struggles, especially his complicated relationships with his children and ex-wife. Thornton described Tommy as a lone coyote, constantly fighting to survive in a ruthless world.
Outside of Landman, Thornton took a moment to acknowledge the victims of the recent Los Angeles wildfires. He expressed his heartfelt sympathy, recalling his own experience of losing his home in the 1993 Malibu fires. “At the end of the day, life and family are what truly matter,” he said.
