Veteran actress Carol Kane expressed her admiration for the film adaptation of Wicked during the 2025 New York Film Critics Circle Awards on January 8. Kane, who is well-known for her portrayal of Madame Morrible in various Wicked productions, praised the movie, saying, “I thought the movie was brilliant … and everyone was so great in it.”
Kane has a deep connection to Wicked, having first played Madame Morrible during the show’s inaugural national tour in 2005. She then brought the role to Broadway in 2006, where she performed from January to November. Her journey continued as she joined the original Los Angeles cast in 2007 and the original San Francisco cast until 2009. Kane reflected on her long association with the show, remarking, “Having done this show for years, it’s sort of amazing that I was still bowled over by what I saw in the film.”
The film adaptation boasts an all-star cast, with Michelle Yeoh taking on the role of Madame Morrible, alongside Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, and Ethan Slater as Boq. Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the movie is being split into two parts. Wicked: Part One is now available to purchase, while Wicked: For Good, the second part, is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.
