Daphne Zuniga didn’t hold back when reflecting on her character Jo’s dramatic storyline in Melrose Place. During a recent episode of the Still The Place podcast, she acknowledged how over-the-top her storyline was, especially the baby kidnapping arc that played out during the show’s third season.
Zuniga shared with a laugh, “Jo has a baby, then it’s kidnapped. I mean, I was on David Letterman once. I couldn’t keep up with where the baby went. It was kidnapped. Then I got him back. Then he was stolen again. Then finally, I gave him up in the end. It’s like, that was over the top, you know?”
She explained how the plot went into a whirlwind of twists, with Jo’s baby being kidnapped multiple times, before finally being put up for adoption. The storyline, full of dramatic developments like fake deaths and the involvement of multiple parties, definitely gave fans a lot to talk about. Zuniga reflected that while it was extreme, it was also what made the show so captivating for viewers during its prime.
Her co-host, Laura Leighton, who also starred in Melrose Place, agreed, admitting that while the twists seemed absurd at times, they ended up being exactly what the audience craved, saying, “‘Oh my gosh, really? Is this… I mean, isn’t this over the top?’ Then somehow it managed to be exactly what the audience wanted.”
