There is a tradition to celebrate Krishna Chaturdashi of Kartik month as Chhoti Diwali, Amavasya as Diwali and Kartik Purnima as Dev Diwali. The fasting and worship of Kartik Purnima has special significance in Hindu religion. It is also called Dev Diwali, because on this day the gods saved heaven by killing the demon Tripurasura.
Special worship of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Tulsi Mata is done on Kartik Purnima. Here the worship method of Kartik Purnima is given. This year Dev Diwali is being celebrated on 15th November i.e. today.
According to mythological belief, on the day of Kartik Purnima, the gods come to earth and celebrate Diwali at the Ganga Ghat. It is said that God is pleased with the worship done on the day of Dev Diwali and blesses his devotees.
It is believed that on this day gods and goddesses come from heaven to take bath in the river Ganga. That is why the Ganga Ghats of Varanasi are illuminated with lamps.
