Gracie Abrams has been affectionately dubbed a “Taydaughter” by fans, a nod to her close bond with Taylor Swift and the mentorship she’s received from the global superstar. Their friendship blossomed in 2021, and by 2022, Abrams was opening for Swift during her Eras Tour. Since then, she hasn’t stopped raving about Swift’s immense influence on pop music.
Despite their strong connection, Abrams emphasized that they are two very different individuals. In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, she explained, “I couldn’t be more different from Taylor. We are different in all the ways that my friends and I are different or that you and I are different.”
That doesn’t stop her from admiring Swift, whom she describes as a rare combination of talent, business acumen, and humility. “Taylor is an athlete, a brilliant businessperson, and a genius writer. She’s a grounded human being who makes time for everyone in her life,” Abrams said, praising Swift’s ability to juggle her demanding career while staying present for those around her.
Reflecting on her own experience as a self-proclaimed “Taydaughter,” Abrams gushed, “It’s been really cool to be in the orbit of a person like her.” She also expressed frustration over the continued skepticism surrounding Swift’s success.
“There’s also nothing that comes close to what she has done. People will still gaslight her and her capabilities and all this sht. But please point me to one man who has come close to defining pop culture in this way. There is nothing! But people are not ready for that conversation,”* she said, calling out the double standards Swift faces despite her record-breaking career.
Abrams’ friendship with Swift dates back to December 2021, when she received an unexpected invitation to the singer’s birthday party, as reported by Vanity Fair. By 2023, she told the Recording Academy that meeting Swift felt like “an immediate best friend and also a superhero.” That admiration came full circle at the 2025 Grammys, where Abrams found herself nominated alongside her idol—a moment that cemented just how far she had come under Swift’s guidance.
