Filmmaker Karan Johar has become the target of online trolling after mistakenly referring to the kitchen as “ghusalkhana” (bathroom) in a YouTube vlog by choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan. Although the episode was released last month, the clip has resurfaced online, drawing widespread reactions.
During the vlog, Karan confused the Hindi words “rasoi” (kitchen) and “ghusalkhana” (bathroom), leading to a flood of social media jokes and criticism. The clip was shared on Reddit with users questioning whether the mistake was intentional. Comments ranged from playful jabs to accusations of hypocrisy, as many recalled Karan’s past remarks on actress Kangana Ranaut’s English accent.
One user sarcastically noted, “Did he just call the kitchen ‘ghusalkhana’?” while another commented, “Showing that they don’t know Hindi is a style statement for them. Such a shame.” Others speculated that Karan was playing into the controversy, with one remarking, “He’s most probably acting.” However, some users found the joke in poor taste, stating, “It is not funny to equate the kitchen with the bathroom.”
Amid the online buzz, Karan Johar is currently focused on his next project, Nadaaniyan, which will introduce Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of Saif Ali Khan, opposite Khushi Kapoor. The film, directed by debutante Shauna Gautam, will release on Netflix. Meanwhile, Karan’s last production, Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, failed to perform at the box office.
