Rory Sykes, a former child actor known for his role on the show Kiddy Kapers, tragically lost his life in the wildfires that have been ravaging Los Angeles since last Tuesday. His mother, Shelley Sykes, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, explaining that Rory was inside their Malibu cottage when the fire broke out.
Shelley described the harrowing moments when she tried to put out the fire herself, but she was unable to extinguish the flames on the roof. Unfortunately, the water supply had been shut off in the affected areas, making it impossible for her to stop the fire from spreading.
In a deeply emotional message on her social media, Shelley wrote, “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son, @Rorysykes, to the Malibu fires yesterday.” She added, “I’m totally heartbroken.”
Shelley also shared some details about Rory’s life. He had been blind since childhood due to cerebral palsy and had difficulty walking, but thanks to surgeries and therapy, he had made significant improvements.
In the midst of the chaos, Shelley called 9-1-1 for help. When she couldn’t reach them, she contacted the fire department. Tragically, by the time she went back to search for Rory, he had already passed away. The fire department later confirmed that Rory died from inhaling carbon monoxide gas. He was just 32 years old when he died.
This tragedy has added to the already devastating toll of the wildfires, and Rory’s family and fans are mourning the loss of someone who was once a beloved child star.
