Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power has officially been renewed for a third season on Prime Video

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is gearing up for an exciting return with its highly anticipated third season. Currently in pre-production, the new season will film in the U.K. and promises a time jump following the events of Season 2, which aired in October.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next season will dive into one of the most pivotal moments in Middle-earth’s history—Sauron’s creation of the iconic One Ring. This marks a significant part of the Lord of the Rings timeline, specifically during the Second Age, and sets the stage for the War of the Elves and Sauron. This war is the first major battle in the prequel series and a crucial event leading to the rise of Sauron’s power.

The official synopsis of the season teases: “Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all of Middle-earth at last.”

In addition to the exciting storyline, the third season will also be helmed by internationally acclaimed director Charlotte Brändström, who was nominated for an Emmy Award. Brändström previously directed several episodes in Season 1, and her return promises to bring fresh yet familiar energy to the series.

The Rings of Power has been a massive success for Amazon, with its first season breaking streaming records. It became the most-streamed season ever based on total hours watched, with 170 million viewers tuning in.

Details about the cast and the exact release date will be announced by the creators in the near future, leaving fans eager to see how the epic saga continues to unfold.
