Mariah Carey’s annual defrosting has officially entered the world of Fortnite, and the holiday season just got a little bit more festive with the Queen of Christmas herself making a grand debut in the game. For Fortnite players and fans of Carey alike, this collaboration is a big deal. The iconic singer, who practically owns Christmas with her hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” is now part of the game’s Winterfest celebrations.
It all started when a mysterious block of ice appeared on the map during Fortnite’s Chapter 6, Season 1 update. Players quickly noticed that the ice was slowly melting, and reactions to the slowly thawing block were a mix of excitement and humor. One player even humorously wrote, “screaming. crying. vomiting” at the thought of being “blasted” by Carey in the game.
As a nod to Carey’s annual defrosting meme, the ice block will eventually reveal an NPC version of Mariah Carey, fully embracing her Christmas Queen title. She will be spread holiday cheer around the Fortnite map and interact with players. Carey’s NPC will be decked out in a bright red Santa suit with white fur accents, a thick black belt, and black boots. Players will also get the chance to enjoy an “All I Want for Christmas” emote, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The ice block encasing Carey can be found in the center of the map, between Seaport City, Foxy Floodgate, and Brutal Boxcarts. Her arrival is highly anticipated, and while the exact timing of the thawing remains uncertain, it’s expected that she’ll make her debut before Christmas Day. Players can also look forward to her special skin being available for purchase in the Item Shop, although it’s unclear whether the emote will be free.
Winterfest is always a big event in Fortnite, and this year’s celebrations include additional Christmas-themed skins, including ones for Snoop Dogg and Yulejacket, along with the usual festive items and presents scattered throughout the Winterfest Lodge. With Mariah Carey’s festive entrance, it’s clear that this Winterfest will be one for the books.
