Nicole Kidman recently reflected on some of her most memorable red carpet moments, including what she considers her biggest style fail: a headdress she wore to the 2004 Golden Globes. In an interview with W Magazine for their first issue of 2025, Kidman humorously recalled the ensemble, admitting she “didn’t know what I was doing” at the time. She described the look as a “train wreck,” referring to the gold sequin halter-neck gown paired with a matching gold scarf-style headband and organza detailing. Kidman completed the look with olive green pumps and a golden clutch, sporting iconic curls with the golden headband. Her mother also shares her thoughts on the gown, agreeing it was one of her more questionable red carpet choices.
Despite this, Kidman has also had her share of iconic moments, naming her chartreuse Dior by Galliano gown from the 1997 Oscars as one of her favorites, along with a gold Galliano gown she wore to the 2000 Oscars. The latter was complemented with vintage 24-karat gold mesh gloves, a detail Kidman treasures but feels has gone underappreciated.
The actress also shared a love for menswear-inspired outfits, citing an Alaïa suit she bought with her per diem money as one of her earliest significant fashion purchases. Although she wishes she still had the suit, she noted that formal or menswear styles are more aligned with her natural dressing sense.
Kidman has kept her iconic red carpet outfits in pristine condition, saving them for her daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, whom she shares with husband Keith Urban. “I have them all beautifully boxed,” she said, showing her desire to pass on the pieces to her daughters in the future.
