Rakesh Bedi recalls being denied payment on set; opens up on Bollywood hierarchy

Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi has spoken candidly in a recent interview about the power dynamics within the film industry, recalling an incident that highlighted the deep-rooted hierarchy on sets. The actor, who is currently receiving attention for Dhurandhar: The Revenge, shared how he was once denied payment despite urgently needing it.

Recounting the moment, Bedi revealed that during a shoot, a producer arrived carrying cash, which he assumed would be used to clear pending dues. When he requested his payment, he was told there were no funds available at the time. However, he soon realised that the money was reserved for the film’s lead star. The incident, he said, gave him a clear understanding of how priorities are often set in the industry.

Reflecting on the experience, the actor noted that hierarchy is an accepted reality in films, though it constantly evolves. He admitted that while he learned to come to terms with such situations, it shaped his perspective on how people should be treated on set.

Bedi also emphasised the importance of respect, stating that professional differences should not translate into personal disrespect. He pointed out that he avoids practices he considers demeaning, such as asking staff members to perform personal tasks for actors.

His remarks have once again brought attention to conversations around fairness and work culture in Bollywood, even as he continues to stay relevant through recent successful projects.
