‘That is crazy’: ‘Better Call Saul’ star Bob Odenkirk discovers he’s related to King Charles III

Well, it seems that Bob Odenkirk has a connection to royalty. The actor, widely known for Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, lately learned this through television after making an appearance on the US TV show Finding Your Roots, which revolves around genealogy. According to the show, Bob is King Charles III’s eleventh cousin.

Bob Odenkirk was born and raised in Chicago, where his family comes from. In the show, lineage specialists suggest that Friedrich Carl Steinholz, Bob’s fifth great-grandfather, was born in Plön, Germany, in 1755. Host Henry Louis Gates Jr. informs the actor that Steinholz was born out of wedlock with the Duke of Plön, who is a member of Europe’s royal line through intermarriage.

Reacting to this, Bob said, “[It makes me feel] like a part of history that I didn’t think I was any part of, but I’m an American. I’m not a monarchist. I don’t believe in that.”

He continued, “You know, I feel like it’s a little twisted. I understand why society built itself around monarchs and leaders and they passed them down through generations. I understand that goes through every society, every civilisation. But I think that we’ve gotten to a better place with democracy, and we should keep going down that road.”

Bob broke out laughing when the host revealed to him that he was King Charles III’s 11th cousin. He quickly added, “Well, maybe I’ll change my mind on that!” “That’s so funny, man. Oh, that is crazy! I never thought about that,” he also said.

Another clip from the program shows Bob giggling and saying “Are you kidding me? That’s insane!” He also wanted his mother could hear the news.
