The 2025 Grammy Awards will go ahead as planned despite the devastating wildfires that have affected Los Angeles, though the event will take on a more meaningful tone. The Recording Academy shared this update on January 13, beginning with an acknowledgment of the tragedy.
“We are deeply saddened by the wildfires that have struck Los Angeles, and our hearts go out to everyone affected by the loss of life and widespread destruction,” the statement said.
In response to the crisis, the Recording Academy, MusiCares CEO Harvey Mason Jr., and board chair Tammy Hurt announced that a new relief initiative, supported by artists and music professionals, has already raised about $2 million. These funds will go toward providing emergency help to those most in need. “We are fully committed to continuing our support and offering assistance to those affected,” the statement added. The fires, which started on January 7, have already destroyed thousands of buildings and tragically claimed the lives of at least two dozen people.
In light of the disaster, the Grammy organizers are shifting the focus of this year’s ceremony to offer hope and a renewed sense of purpose. The event will also serve as a platform to raise additional funds and honor the first responders who have shown remarkable courage and dedication.
The 2025 Grammy Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday, February 2, from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
