WPL 2025: Controversial run-out takes place as Harmanpreet Kaur argues with umpire on final decision

The Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals WPL 2025 match witnessed a moment of controversy when Shikha Pandey survived a close call before eventually getting run out.

In the 18th over, bowled by Hayley Matthews, Pandey attempted a lap shot but missed. The ball ricocheted towards backward point, and she, along with her partner, attempted a risky single. The fielder fired in a direct hit, and while MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was convinced that Pandey was out, the third umpire ruled it not out, stating that Shikha had just slid her bat in before the bails were completely dislodged.

Why was it not-out?

As per commentators, the bails did not dislodge completely and only one had fell while the batter slid in, making her secure from run-out.

Kaur immediately walked up to the umpire, questioning the call, clearly unhappy with the decision. However, play resumed, and just a few deliveries later, Shikha Pandey was dismissed in a much clearer fashion.

In the 19th over, Saika Ishaque bowled a delivery that Shikha forced to cover and attempted another quick single. This time, Sajeevan Sajana was quick to react, and her accurate throw to Yastika Bhatia behind the stumps caught Shikha short despite a desperate dive.
