In a 2019 interview, Millie Bobby Brown opened up about her longing for the freedom she imagined kids had in the 1980s. Reflecting on the past, she shared that children from that era seemed to enjoy a lot more independence compared to today. Brown, then 15, told HELLO! magazine that kids in the ’80s could freely ride their bikes around the neighborhood without restrictions, something she found enviable.
She confessed to feeling “jealous” of those born in the ’80s, as they had the liberty to explore their surroundings without the same safety concerns. Brown, even before her rise to fame on Stranger Things, explained that she couldn’t experience that same freedom herself, stating that it was simply too dangerous. “Nowadays I can’t even go out of the house too far, but even before Stranger Things, I couldn’t do that,” she said.
In addition to the freedom, Brown expressed her admiration for ’80s fashion and music, mentioning how much she loved the bright colors, big hairstyles, and the unique vibe of the time. She also shared her fondness for the old Coca-Cola cans and revealed that her role on Stranger Things had introduced her to the music of David Bowie, which she quickly grew to love.
Despite her growing fame, Millie Bobby Brown described her life as being pretty typical for a teenager. She preferred comfortable sneakers over luxury accessories, even wearing them on the red carpet at the SAG Awards. She also emphasized that she never tried to act older than her age.
Outside of her career, Brown found joy in simple activities like baking (though she joked about sometimes burning cakes), spending time at the park with her younger sister, Ava, swimming, and caring for her pets.
In 2021, she began a relationship with actor Jake Bongiovi, and the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony on May 27, 2024, as reported by People magazine.
