While King Khan is known for his wit, few people are aware that during his wedding reception, the superstar performed a prank on his in-laws that left everyone stunned and then in splits. SRK recalled how his wedding to Gauri had sent tongues moving regarding Hindu-Muslim marriages during his interview with Farida Jalal on her talk programme.
Gauri’s relatives were worried if he would force her to change her faith and name, he said. “I remember when their whole family, old fashioned people, I respect them all and respect their views, but at that time, in that old-fashioned reception, when I came in at 1:15, all of them were sitting there murmuring “Hmmm.. He’s a Muslim guy,” Shah Rukh recalled. Will he change the name of the girl? Will Gauri convert to Islam?”
“They were all conversing in Punjabi,” the Baadshah of Bollywood continued, recalling how he reacted to the incident.
‘OK Gauri, put on your ‘burqa’ and let’s read the namaaz now,’ I remarked, looking at the time.
The entire family looked at us as if I had already converted her to Christianity.
“From now on, she will wear a burqa at all times, she will never leave the house, her name will be changed to Ayesha, and she will be like this,” I told them.
